Anna Astakhova
Hi, I am a visual artist working across illustration, film, and teaching.

I graduated with a Master’s degree in Film Scenography from the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague (DAMU/FAMU) and currently work in the film industry. Originally from Russia, I have been based in the Czech Republic since 2013.
I enjoy watercolor painting and like working across both traditional and digital media. I am especially drawn to natural motifs, which often become the main focus of my work. Letterforms also play an important role, but they are part of a wider visual language rather than the starting point.
Alongside my creative work, I teach and have several years of experience working with both children and adults. Teaching is an important part of my practice, and I am currently developing my skills further by completing a pedagogical qualification at UMPRUM.

Selected ExperiencE
Set Decoration / Draftsperson — Sci-Fi Series Foundation (Apple TV)
2021-2026
Worked across three seasons of a science fiction series within the set decoration department. Designed interior elements and props, developing concepts, 3D models, and drawings that guided fabrication.
Created atmospheric scene concepts and translated them into set dressing on location — planning layouts, arranging objects, and contributing to the final composition under the supervision of the lead set decorator. I was also involved in sourcing materials and producing hand-crafted elements such as paintings and decorative objects.
This experience strengthened my digital sketching speed, spatial thinking, and ability to move between concept and execution within a collaborative process.

Teaching artist
Independent Courses & Private Practice
I have taught drawing and painting to both children and adults through short-term courses and individual lessons. My teaching focuses on observation, basic techniques, and working with different materials.
Alongside group classes, I have also worked one-on-one with students, adapting my approach to their level and needs. My teaching practice continues to evolve, shaped by my own artistic work and professional experience in film. This has helped me bring more structure, clarity, and attention to detail into the way I teach, while maintaining a balance between guidance and creative freedom.
